Organization OverviewPattison’s Academy is a nonprofit organization with the mission to unlock the potential of individuals with disabilities and empower their families. Located in Charleston, South Carolina, we provide individualized, comprehensive, year‑round programming for children with disabilities through our charter school, summer camp, therapy services, and early intervention services. Our collaborative model places the child at the center of care and surrounds them with a multidisciplinary team of specialized providers, ensuring that all children’s needs are addressed with compassion and expertise.
By consolidating their care network, we provide a one‑stop destination with the tools necessary for children with disabilities and their families to thrive.
Pattison’s Academy is seeking a passionate and driven Summer Camp Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for campers and ensuring our camp programming is individualized to their abilities. Counselors will be assigned to a group of no more than 6 campers under the supervision of a Lead Counselor.
Qualifications- Must be 18+ years old
The Camp Counselor’s duties, though not exhaustive, include the following:
- Sensitivity and flexibility to the needs of a diverse group of campers
- Ability to tailor summer camp program to target the goals of each camper, including but not limited to:
- Active participation in adaptive sports, music, arts/crafts
- Active participation in field trips out in the community
- Ensuring each child is socially, emotionally, and physically challenged through creative initiatives and suggestions
- Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs
- Work closely and collaboratively with all members of the interdisciplinary team
- Tend to the care of the camper’s personal hygiene needs, including oral feeding and toileting/diapering
- Assist with ensuring a safe and clean environment for campers. These duties will include wiping down/sanitizing equipment, furniture, and throughout the camp environment
- Participate in the beginning and end‑of‑day briefings with camp staff
- Uphold camp policies and maintain a positive, supportive attitude
- Collect data daily on camper goals
- Perform other related job duties as assigned
- Exposure to various education and medical professions
- Training in educational, therapeutic, and nursing interventions for individuals with multiple and severe disabilities
- Support for developing problem‑solving skills to individualized programming
- Hands‑on application of therapeutic, educational, and nursing interventions
- Participation in an interdisciplinary team
