This is a full-time, on-site Civil Construction Estimator role based in Charleston, SC. The Civil Construction Estimator will review civil drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports to prepare detailed quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, stormwater systems, and related sitework. The role includes developing accurate cost estimates, assembling bids, and coordinating with project managers and field supervisors to validate production rates and construction methods.
The estimator will obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing, maintain current unit costs, and update estimate templates and historical data. Day-to-day activities also include participating in pre-bid meetings, clarifying scope with clients and design teams, and supporting project handoff to operations to ensure alignment between estimates and field execution.
- Civil construction estimating skills, including quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, and stormwater systems, and experience with bid preparation and cost analysis.
- Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software, spreadsheets, and digital plan review tools; strong ability to interpret civil drawings, specifications, and site reports.
- Knowledge of sitework means and methods, production rates, local materials and subcontractor markets, and Low country soil and environmental considerations.
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy under bid deadlines.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with project managers, field supervisors, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple bids, work independently on-site, and adapt to changing project needs.
- Relevant experience in civil/site construction estimating; experience in the Charleston or Low country market is beneficial.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field preferred, or equivalent practical experience.
