Garden & Gun seeks a social media expert who can help us connect with readers on various platforms. The ideal candidate will have experience in journalism, video, design, marketing, and of course, social media. The person will help shape strategy and be responsible for day-to-day engagement with readers—so we’re looking for a big thinker as well as someone who sweats the details.
The position is based in our office in Charleston, South Carolina.
- Help define and execute strategies to grow G&G’s presence, engagement, and referrals across social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Tik Tok, Threads, Pinterest, and Linked In
- Maintain and adhere to a robust social media posting schedule, and be flexible and quick to respond when breaking news or other events occur
- Compose creative and engaging editorial posts, using content from the magazine and from the website
- Conceive and create original, platform-native content
- Help develop and execute opportunities for sponsors on G&G social platforms
- Help manage paid social media campaigns for editorial and sales teams
- Work with teams across the organization, including editorial, sales, and marketing
- Track and monitor the latest social media trends
- Use analytics to understand audiences across platforms
- Monitor social channels, answer questions, and interact with followers
- 3-5 years’ professional experience managing social media accounts for an editorial or lifestyle brand, required
- Experience working in an editorial environment; excellent news judgment; awareness of current events; strong writing skills; strong video skills; attention to detail
- Experience creating posts that have proven to reach intended audiences and encouraged users to click on, react to, or share content
- Experience conceiving, producing, and designing assets for various social platforms, using text, photography and video
- Experience with paid social media campaigns, including scheduling, setting budgets, and managing audiences
- Experience with video editing, production, and post-production software
- A command of video editing, production, and post-production software
- A command of social media publishing tools
- Effective time management skills and ability to juggle multiple initiatives
- Four-year college degree in journalism, communications, or marketing strongly preferred
- A solid understanding of the G&G brand and voice
