Position: Communications Specialist II (Office of Admissions) #26116

Job Responsibilities

The Communications Specialist, in the Office of Admissions, answers and transfers calls and performs advanced operator functions. Aids in cultivating a positive image in the community and general public for the college, ensuring accurate and effective flow of communication between Trident Technical College and the public.

  • Performs advanced operator functions by answering and processing telephone calls on a multi-line system and provides exceptional customer service and information in a friendly, efficient, and professional manner. Receives and forwards calls to appropriate departments, ensuring callers reach the right people or are forwarded to public safety.
  • Triages caller requests for information. Answers questions and recommends corrective services to address customer needs. Triages calls & either routes calls as requested, answers basic questions, ascertains & transfers to appropriate internal service-provider, or obtains caller’s contact information & ensures an appropriate service-provider follows up w/caller.
  • Provides routine, non-interpretive information upon request and stays updated on daily campus and site activities to respond to callers and provide current campus information. Remains familiar with the college website, on-campus education partners, and college-hosted events in order to provide direction and service to callers upon request.
  • Performs receptionist and other duties as assigned. Serves on selected committees as requested.
Minimum And Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and experience in one of the following areas: communications, switchboard exchange operations, clerical accounting, billing, or working with the general public.

Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma and two (2) years of experience in communications, switchboard exchange operations, clerical accounting, billing, or working with the general public.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Knowledge of telephone equipment, telecommunications practices, and relevant computer programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and perform efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated reliability, customer focus, problem-solving ability, and communication proficiency.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
