Job Summary

Generally responsible for supervision and technical direction over a team of architects and designers, including total delivery of architectural deliverables and services on time, within performance budget, and meeting quality expectations.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of architects and designers to ensure quality and accuracy of deliverables and manage individual and team performance.
  • Review and approve all architectural deliverables.
  • Validate professional services and produce preliminary estimates of construction costs at the onset of projects, tracking changes as the project progresses.
  • Produce professional service estimates in accordance with department standards for project deliverables, studies, estimates, change notices, and new work proposal efforts.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine the simplest, most efficient approach to solving tasks.
  • Establish design criteria, incorporating client requirements, estimates, scope basis, and design basis that meet applicable state, local, and federal standards and codes.
  • Maintain working knowledge of scope and deliverables.
  • Initiate timely change notices when deviations from scope affect schedule, deliverables, or cost of the work.
  • Plan and organize the work of the team, communicating the plan to team, project leadership, and client.
  • Maintain project control by tracking discipline, performance budget, progress, schedule commitments, and quality standards.
  • Utilize project tools for project control.
  • Delegate work to architects and designers based on technical skills and experience, following up to ensure efficient progress and quality.
  • Present project design to leaders for review and recommend solutions.
  • Participate in or perform final inspections of improvement projects and recommend acceptance of construction work.
  • Review building plans and site designs for aesthetics, environmental acceptability, code compliance, and accessibility requirements.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Research, plan, design, and supervise construction of building projects for clients according to needs and financial resources, applying knowledge of design, construction procedures, zoning, building codes, and materials.
  • Consult with clients to determine functional and spatial requirements for new structures or renovations, preparing information on design, specifications, materials, color, equipment, estimated costs, and construction time.
  • Participate in planning of training, continuous education, and professional development programs for staff.
Education and Registration
  • Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Architecture from a NAAB-accredited university.
  • Registration as an Architect with the NCARB (applicable jurisdictional license(s) may be required).
Experience
  • 10 or more years of architectural experience.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of architectural standards, best practices, and building codes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for the production of all architectural deliverables.
  • Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks.
  • Ability to develop preliminary construction cost estimates.
  • Ability to develop design criteria and scope of work.
  • Ability to create accurate blueprints and schematics.
  • Experience in estimating and scheduling professional service hours and assessing the progress and quality of architectural work.
  • Knowledge and application of company architectural design and CAD drafting standards.
  • Ability to lead project teams to deliver on commitments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Excellent virtual team skills and cross-divisional relationships.
  • Acknowledged leadership in and proponent of interoffice execution.
  • Leadership in the Community of Practice.
