- Base pay: $/yr – $/yr
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Eligibility requires meeting specific VHA policy requirements and submitting an EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
QualificationsApplicants must meet the basic requirements listed below or any additional requirements (if applicable) in the job announcement. Candidates pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Basic Requirements- United States Citizenship (non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).
- Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine from an approved VA school.
- Full and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
- Completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Preferred: Fellowship in addiction psychiatry; experience teaching residents/fellows.
- Physical ability to perform primarily walking, sitting, talking, driving, and use of the telephone; light lifting (≤15 lb).
- Exposure to individuals with psychiatric and physical illnesses, including violent or aggressive behavior.
- Perform psychiatric evaluations for a diverse population, including geriatric and post‑deployment combat veterans, with psychosocial issues such as homelessness and unemployment.
- Provide a full range of therapeutic interventions: diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management, suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, and overall care of psychiatric patients.
- Ensure practice of psychiatric medicine is consistent with TJC, CARF, HIPAA, VA policies, clinical practice guidelines, national statutes, and federal regulations.
- Conduct psycho‑diagnostic services and apply appropriate psychotherapeutic techniques.
- Serve as a mental health team leader, coordinating consults and triage of specialty clinic referrals.
- Participate in team meetings, treatment planning conferences, and collaborate with multidisciplinary team members.
- Order diagnostic tests and consultations, interpret findings, and make appropriate treatment decisions.
- Supervise and teach supporting the psychiatric residency program; perform on‑call duties as assigned.
- Work Schedule:
8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday (subject to change based on agency needs).
