Role OverviewA family of three seeks a Governess to guide their three-year-old daughter’s early education within an intentional, home-based learning environment. Their educational philosophy is a synthesis of Waldorf, Charlotte Mason, and Reggio Emilia pedagogy, centered on nature, rhythm, and beauty. Learning unfolds through story, play, art, movement, nature, and daily life on their biodynamic farms.
Seasonal time is spent between residences in South Carolina and California, with additional residences to be added in the future. The Governess travels with the family as part of the role.
The Governess is expected to establish primary residence in Charleston, SC. Housing and transportation are provided when working at other family residences or traveling with the family.
- Guide daily learning through storytelling, literacy and numeracy, nature exploration, arts and crafts, music, movement, imaginative play, seasonal themes, and practical life skills
- Maintain organized and inspired learning and play spaces
- Support daily transitions and routines with steadiness and consistency
- Adapt learning experiences across environments, seasons, and during travel
- Observe progress and share thoughtful, concise updates with the parents
- Weekly lesson planning and daily classroom/activity setup and cleanup
- 6+ years of professional experience in private education, homeschooling, or high-level childcare
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Deep familiarity with (or a desire to incorporate) Waldorfor Play-Based Learning and Outdoor Classrooms
- A grounded, calm presence with a “zero-drama” approach to professional service
- Valid driver’s license and passport; ability to travel several months per year
