Traffic​/Safety Engineer

Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a motivated career Traffic/Safety Engineer to join our Charleston, SC office. This position offers the opportunity to join a highly regarded traffic engineering design team working on a broad range of traffic and roadway design projects. You’ll be part of a connected, design‑driven team where ideas are shared, technical quality matters, and experienced transportation engineers are invested in your success.

• Assist Traffic Safety and Traffic Operations professionals as needed.
• Research and analyze vehicular and vulnerable road user crash data.
• Provide analysis to support development of design or operational ideas and solutions.
• Research alternate solutions and design options in support of the project team.
• Assist in preparation of studies, conceptual designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings and working drawings.
• Communicate and collaborate in a team environment and adapt to dynamic project needs.
• Assist with traffic study proposals.
• Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.

Minimum:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related discipline.
• 2 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
• Valid Driver’s License required to regularly drive AECOM vehicles to project sites, and as a condition of employment must pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records Review.

• 5 years of experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience in applicable industry and SCDOT standards, regulations, and guidelines, including MUTCD, AASHTO Green Book, GDOT preferred CAD software (Microstation), and traffic analysis software (Synchro).
• EIT or Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of South Carolina or ability to obtain within 6 months.
