Job Overview
Plans and develops comprehensive controls and automation technology systems and architecture for complex processes and large production systems and draws up standards and resolutely puts them into practice.
Responsibilities- Execute the plant's controls architecture with focus on process stability, system availability, and ease of operation and maintenance.
- Troubleshoot complex PLC equipment problems and perform systems tests in line and in sandbox environments.
- Analyze designs, programs, simulations, and test procedures for automated machinery and processes and communicate discrepancies to vendors for corrections.
- Contribute to new equipment planning and perform buy‑off checks for PLC/Automation equipment.
- Execute software changes and optimization on automation equipment.
- Execute preventive maintenance, safety checks, and work orders on automation equipment.
- Optimize by debugging and rewriting automation software programs.
- Work with planning, engineering, and commissioning of controls equipment until final buy‑offs of equipment in the shops together with suppliers and Mercedes‑Benz Vans production/maintenance teams.
- Drive continuous improvement processes to optimize manufacturing efficiency in PLC/Robot/Automation software.
- Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings and support/guides technicians on shift to review logic to resolve breakdowns.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Required:
4+ years of relevant experience; OR relevant certificate + 3 years of relevant experience; OR relevant associate's degree + 1 year of relevant experience. - Preferred: 5+ years of relevant experience; OR relevant certificate + 4 years of relevant experience; OR relevant associate's degree + 2 years of relevant experience.
- Indirectly relevant experience: experience working with automation equipment, mechanical repairs, or working toward a related degree or certification.
- Solid understanding of computer programming and software development.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex PLC equipment problems and perform complex systems tests in line and sandbox.
- Experience with MB buy‑off processes to ramp up new installations and check line builder implementation regarding ECM Standard.
- Experience with PLCs, robotics, and automation process equipment (Integra Wave 5/6/7 & Kuka KRC4).
- Optimization of series programming, cycle time optimization, backup archiving, and correction of findings in the PLC program.
- Project management experience.
- Strong process engineering “LEAN” skill set.
