Job Description Summary
This role contributes to the Gas Power business as a combustion component materials and processes technical expert to interface with internal GE and external customers to clearly communicate results of development programs and materials analysis from field issues and failures. The TL will present and provide customer solutions to support the gas turbine OEM and Services business, lead technical projects and provide technical support.
As a senior level combustion materials and fabrication expert, work to mentor and direct engineering technical projects within the MPE Combustion Materials team.
- Integrate and develop combustion materials and processes that meet business needs across the organization.
- Engage in long‑term planning.
- Contribute to technical roadmap of combustion materials and process technical strategy and manage complex issues within combustion materials and process application technology.
- Identify, evaluate, develop, and implement combustion material and process advancements to meet near term and long‑range engineering needs.
- Provide technical consultation on product problems throughout the business including supplier and field support.
- Lead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business risk and impact.
- Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art in combustion material and fabrication process technology for gas turbine applications.
- Develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs.
- Support other GE businesses, internal & external GE customers, and supplier issues as required.
- Provide technical consultation to cross‑functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues.
- Effectively communicate and provide technical recommendations on projects, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers.
- Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company.
- Provide technical guidance, direction and training/mentoring to new and experienced materials engineers, specialists, and interns.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering
- Minimum of 7 years experience in gas turbine engineering, with at least 5 years in combustion/materials engineering.
- Ability to access and handle U.S. Export Controlled information
- Master’s or PhD advanced degree preferred
- Knowledge in metal forming, welding, brazing, thermal spray coatings, oxidation, corrosion, wear, failure analysis, and root cause analysis
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Problem analysis and resolution skills
- Demonstrated experience in development, implementation and qualification of coatings used in gas turbine product applications
- Demonstrated ability to document, plan, market and manage programs that further the knowledge, understanding and capability of the business
