Job Description

Join the Site Engineering team at Nuclear Power Training Unit Charleston (NPTU-C) and take on challenging, high impact work at the intersection of waterfront operations and critical site infrastructure. Hone your craft with a team of skilled professionals supporting the US Navy in the areas of site operations, infrastructure projects, and major construction projects. As a Mechanical/Structural Engineer you will work to keep our site-and our vessels-safe, connected, and mission-ready.

Specific

Responsibilities
  • Cognizant engineer for piers, mooring, and other waterfront structures that support permanently moored vessels; making sure they're safe, robust, and ready for extreme conditions
  • Work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver infrastructure upgrades, providing mechanical and civil/structural insight from concept through construction
  • Provide in-service engineering support for civil systems (water, sanitary, storm water, etc.)
  • Assess lifting and handling operations and surface weight bearing capacity for equipment, vehicles, and staged loads; recommend reinforcements or operational limits
  • Perform structural load calculations for destructive weather and seismic events, ensuring our facilities and equipment can withstand environmental factors
  • Perform technical and Quality Assurance reviews for mechanical disciplines and deliverables (design reviews, construction submittal reviews, field surveys, and closeout inspections) to support various SPPE-led infrastructure and major construction projects
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or Currently an Intermediate Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.

Preferred

Skills
  • Working knowledge of key codes and standards, such as Unified Facilities Criteria, IBC, ASME, ASCE, ACI, NFPA, etc.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, construction specifications, and engineering standards
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD software to create, review, and revise technical drawings
  • Strong skills in structural load calculations including wind, seismic, and environmental loads, and lifting and handling applications
  • Strong skills in technical writing and communication
  • Familiarity with construction methods and techniques pertaining to site development, building construction, and system commissioning
  • Familiarity with project management principles (scope, schedule, budget, risk)

Pay Range $78,700.00 - $ annually
