The Consumer Direct Loan Officer is a full-time, on-site role based in Charleston, SC. This position is responsible for originating residential mortgage loans by responding to inbound consumer inquiries, conducting outbound follow-up, and guiding borrowers through the loan process from initial contact to closing. Daily activities include assessing borrower eligibility, collecting and reviewing documentation, presenting appropriate loan products, and clearly explaining terms, costs, and timelines.
The Loan Officer collaborates with processing, underwriting, and closing teams to ensure an efficient and compliant loan experience, while maintaining accurate records in the company’s systems. This role also involves building long-term client relationships, adhering to all regulatory and company policies, and meeting production and customer satisfaction goals.
- Proficiency in mortgage origination, including assessing borrower needs, recommending suitable loan products, and managing the loan lifecycle.
- Strong skills in customer service, consultative sales, and relationship building to support borrowers throughout the process.
- Ability to work with loan documentation, credit reports, income and asset verification, and maintain accurate files.
- Comfort with mortgage technology platforms, CRM systems, and basic office software for data entry and communication.
- Knowledge of conventional and government loan programs, lending regulations, and industry compliance requirements.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex financial information in clear terms.
- Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and follow-through.
- Relevant state mortgage loan originator license (NMLS) and any required local registrations.
- Prior experience as a loan officer or in mortgage lending, banking, or financial services is highly beneficial.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; college coursework or degree in finance, business, or a related field is a plus.
