Overview
The Pediatric Interventional Cardiology Registered Nurse II for the Pediatric Catheterization Lab reports to the Cath Lab Supervisor and the Interventional Cardiology and Imaging Manager.
Under limited supervision, this RN performs and assists in complex technical procedures, operating at a high level of technical competency and acting with initiative and ingenuity. Responsibilities include special cardiovascular, electrophysiology (EP), and other interventional procedures for patients ranging from neonates to adult congenital heart disease.
Core duties involve all heart catheterization, electrophysiology studies, ablations, and other cardiovascular interventional radiographic procedures. The RN must possess a strong knowledge of normal and abnormal cardiovascular anatomy and physiology. A minimum of one year in a pediatric ICU or pediatric cardiac ICU, or procedural care experience is preferred.
Job SummaryThe MUSC Pediatric Cardiac Cath and EP Lab consists of two state-of-the-art labs, with the capability to perform hybrid OR procedures, all supported by a dedicated Cardiac Prep and Recovery unit.
Schedule:
Day Shift 7am-3:30pm plus on-call (3 days a week).
- Preferred:
Bachelor of Nursing degree. - For RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree: must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain a BSN within four years of hire or reclassification.
- Minimum of one year of ICU work or procedural experience as a registered nurse is preferred.
- Registered Nurse licensed by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications required within 6 months of hire.
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
- Proficiency in manual dexterity and fine motor skills for tasks such as taking vitals, administering injections, or conducting exams.
- Capacity to lift and move patients or medical equipment as needed.
- Visual acuity and color perception to accurately read medical charts, documents, and monitors.
- Auditory ability to effectively communicate with patients and colleagues, and to perceive important sounds such as alarms or patient instructions.
- Stamina and resilience to handle the physical and emotional demands of providing patient care, including long shifts and potentially stressful situations.
- Mobility to navigate clinical environments, including moving between patient rooms, offices, and other areas of the facility.
- Compliance with infection control protocols and proper use of personal protective equipment.
