Job Description

Interventional radiologic technologist assists physicians with image guided minimally invasive procedures in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Providing the highest quality of care, they treat an ever-widening range of conditions inside the body from outside the body by inserting various small instruments or tools, such as catheters or wires, with the use of various x-ray and imaging techniques (i.e., CT scanners, MRI scanners, ultrasound scanners).

The technologist is responsible for maintaining sterile technique, operation of equipment, quality assurance of imaging and compassionate patient care. Our Interventional Radiology department is at the forefront of innovation and new technologies, offering an alternative to the surgical treatment of many conditions and can eliminate the need for hospitalization, in some cases.

Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: Day

Shift: Rotating 4-10hour shifts per week (730a-6p);

The Interventional Radiology Technologist reports directly to the Vascular and Interventional Radiology RT Supervisor. The IR Technologist will work alongside the Interventional Radiologist and RN to assist in the performance of diagnostic angiographic procedures as well as complex vascular and nonvascular interventional and therapeutic procedures. He/she is responsible for obtaining all equipment needed for a procedure, positioning and imaging patients, resolving equipment issues, and demonstrating knowledge of human anatomy, radiation safety, interventional supplies, and equipment operation to include fluoroscopy, US, and ancillary therapeutic devices.

The IR technologist must prepare, administer, and document contrast given throughout procedure. Responsible for corroborating a patient's clinical history with procedure and ensuring information documented and available for use by clinician. Using their patient care skills, he/she must provide good communication, patient assessment, and patient monitoring. The IR technologist is responsible for post processing digital data for display or hard copy records, ensuring technical quality and proper identification is evident.

Periodic weekend and off hour call will be required.

Education: Graduation from an accredited school of radiologic technology.

Experience: At least 1 year of X-Ray experience.

Required Registration/Certification:

  • Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (R), required.
  • Licensure from the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association is required

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
    required
    , either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider
