Overview
The Registered Dietitian will ensure that the nutritional status of all patients/residents is assessed accurately and that plans are developed to improve status when needed. The Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) provides guidance to the Director of Food and Nutrition Services (FNS), FNS Manager, Nutrition and Dietetics Technician Registered (NDTR), and/or the staff of the FNS Department. If not based in-house, visits to centers are conducted at appropriate times and with sufficient duration and frequency to provide liaison with medical and nursing staff, advise the Administrator, and guide the FNS department.
Although the emphasis of this position is clinical, duties may include all aspects of food and nutrition services.
- Assess the nutritional status of patients/residents and plan interventions to improve status as needed.
- Provide guidance to the Director of FNS, FNS Manager, NDTR, and FNS staff.
- If not based in-house, conduct center visits to maintain liaison with medical and nursing staff and advise the Administrator and FNS department.
- Contribute to all aspects of food and nutrition services as needed.
- Must have a sincere interest in food service and nutrition and enjoy working with the senior care living population and other healthcare patients.
- Must meet Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics requirements for RDNs.
- At least one year 0of experience in clinical nutrition is desired but not essential. Experience or completion of an accredited Dietetic Internship or equivalent training is expected.
- Must have thorough knowledge of nutrition principles and be able to apply them to assess nutritional status and plan care for patients.
