This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, St. Matthews Clinic, Calhoun County 112 Guess Lane, St. Matthews SC 29135
Under the direct supervision of the St. Matthews Clinic Director, you will provide counseling and intensive services for clients with serious mental illness.
Responsibilities for the Mental Health Professional I:- Function as the primary clinician for assigned caseload of clients and assure that medical records are maintained based on established Center standards. Provide clinical services for all clients served and assure that goals and objectives are developed with clients for treatment, interpret clients' behavior, progress and prepare a synopsis of clients' response to treatment for assigned caseload.
- Provide individual and family counseling, function as leader or co-leader in groups(s) to assist clients with strengthening and restoring life skills that are significant to their needs and recovery.
- Provide intensive services for clients experiencing temporary difficulty with social, family issues, housing vocational or other life crisis.
- Conduct follow up activity via telephone and routine home visits when clients are non-compliant; provide crisis management for clients and work closely with the psychiatrist to use an internal crisis diversion program when appropriate to divert admission to a state psychiatric facility.
- Provide clinical documentation for services rendered to people served; ensure documentation requirements are following Medicaid
-Section II Standards and Corporate Compliance. - Participate in the Treatment Team; review clients' progress in treatment; seek input for the Team regarding treatment interventions to meet clients' needs, or readiness for transition; disposition treatment outcomes to the internal sources assigned within the MHC for processing CARF data.
- Participate in Staff Meetings and other assigned teams essential to Center operations.
- Participate in training opportunities essential to enhancement of knowledge and skills associated in work with persons that have a serious mental illness.
This position MAY be eligible for SCOMH Student Loan Repayment to cover some of the cost of your outstanding loan(s) balance associated with the completion of a healthcare degree that is relevant to the appliable position.
A master's degree in guidance, counseling, the social sciences or a related field.
Additional RequirementsAbility to provide treatment interventions for persons served in the office and in the clients' natural environment. Ability to stand, walk, reach, pull, bend, and climb stairs, move from one area to another and lift 20 lbs.
- Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in SC and willing to work towards licensure in SC.
- Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
- Must have considerable knowledge of principles and practices of counseling and educational services. The individual must be able to provide and maintain effective working relationships with clients, their families or caretakers.
- Must be able to provide individual and group counseling, and intensive interventions for children and people with mental health issues.
- Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and express ideas with other professional staff, other community agencies and the public.
- Must be able to use sound judgement and reasoning to dispose of problems and issues effectively.
