Position Description (PD) for Appian/CSO Subject Matter Expert (SME)

On-site (N. Charleston, SC) preferred, remote considered Scope of Work:
The role will support the Cloud Engineering, Transition, and Modernization Support Services (CETM) effort for the Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic (NIWC Atlantic) in support of the Enterprise Engineering and Integration Services (E2IS) Integrated Product Team (IPT). The scope of work includes application analysis, security requirements analysis, documentation, virtualization, modernization, technical engineering, migration scheduling, business process reengineering, data preparation, migration planning, interface transition planning, training on Cloud Service Offerings (CSO) environment, service transition planning, cutover planning, back out planning, and go-live support.
This support also requires associated transition and/or modernization support services to migrate legacy systems from their current hosting environments. This position requires significant experience in Appian.
The ideal candidate for this position will have experience with Dev Sec Ops software development approach and the Cloud Foundry open-source platform for application development. Additionally, this Appian/Containerization SME must effectively employ the five C’s: communication, collaboration, core competencies, and character.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Act as the primary Appian SME for the CETM/Marine Corps Business Optimization Support System (MCBOSS) team
• Provide expertise for containerization and the Appian product to support deployment, operation, and maintenance activities for important MCBOSS application systems.

Education:
Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in quantitative field such as engineering or mathematics (e.g. Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Information Systems)
Experience:
Ten (10) years with Masters or fourteen (14) with Bachelors degree of professional experience with research, design, and development of computer and network software or specialized utility programs which may include database maintenance within an application area. Also shall have experience applying programming concepts in a professional or academic setting and notable experience with applying modern software development methodologies (Agile, DEVSECOPS) in a professional or academic setting.
Designing public/private/and hybrid Cloud-based system deployments and system transitions. Architecting and planning migrations to commercial cloud service providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Office 365, Google Cloud Platform, or similar cloud platforms. Experience:
Candidates must have hands-on operational experience managing the Appian platform itself, not just developing applications. On-Premises Appian Deployment
Experience:
• Proven experience installing, configuring, and deploying on-prem Appian environments in enterprise or government-regulated environments.
• Experience with multi-tier Appian architectures (web, app, data layers). Platform Patching, Upgrades, and Maintenance:
• Demonstrated experience applying:
o Appian hotfixes
o Quarterly updates
o Security patches
• Ability to plan and execute maintenance windows with minimal service disruption. Appian Plugin Installation and Lifecycle Management:
• Experience with:
o Installing Appian connected systems and plug-ins
o Validating version compatibility
o Managing plug-in upgrades and rollback procedures
o Troubleshooting plugin-related platform failures End-User and Developer Platform Support:
• Experience providing Tier 2 / Tier 3 platform support for:
o Appian application developers
o Business users
o Platform administrators
