Job Summary
The Institutional Data Analyst is an entry‑level professional responsible for supporting university reporting, analytics, and data‑informed decision‑making. This role focuses on extracting, managing, and analyzing institutional data from internal and external sources to support reporting, dashboards, and strategic initiatives.
Job Duties- Institutional Reporting & Compliance – Assist in compiling, validating, and submitting institutional data for state and federal reporting requirements (e.g., CHE, IPEDS), ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to reporting standards and deadlines.
- Data Extraction, Management, and Analysis – Query, clean, and analyze data from institutional databases (e.g., Banner, People Soft) and external sources using SQL, Excel and statistical software (e.g., SAS, SPSS) to support reporting and analysis needs.
- Reporting, Dashboards, and Visualization – Support the development of reports, dashboards, and data visualizations to communicate insights and inform institutional decision‑making.
- Analytical Support for Institutional Priorities – Assist with data analysis projects related to enrollment, student success, financial aid and other key institutional initiatives; prepare findings in written, tabular, and visual formats for diverse audiences.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 2 years of related work, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of certification, training, education and/or experience.
- Exposure to data analysis, reporting or research methods through coursework, internships or projects.
- Experience with one or more tools such as SQL, R, Python, SAS or SPSS.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI or similar.
- Interest in higher education data, institutional analytics or public sector work.
- Foundational understanding of data analysis and basic statistical concepts.
- Ability to work with structured datasets and learn data querying techniques (e.g., SQL).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks in a deadline‑driven environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data clearly.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Willingness and ability to learn new tools, systems and technologies.
