The Hollings Cancer Center (HCC) IT Manager provides direction in the use of information technology and has a mastery of IT theories, principles, concepts, and standards sufficient to advise other IT experts and members of management throughout the agency on a variety of situations and issues. The IT Manager provides advanced technical consulting for enterprise applications, operating systems, endpoints, and peripheral devices including installation, maintenance, upgrades, troubleshooting, problem resolution, acquisition, and replacement.

The ideal candidate should possess complex problem-solving skills, knowledge of complex analytical methods, knowledge of multiple computer environments, platforms, and technologies and in-depth knowledge of the agency's products. The ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with the agency's leadership team, senior management and officials, vendors, and other customers is required.

The IT Manager supports the technology infrastructure and operational systems critical to Hollings Cancer Center's clinical, research, administrative, and educational missions. The position is responsible for coordinating technology services that support NCI Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) activities, research administration, clinical trials operations, and major Cancer Center events.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage HCC IT Coordinator (ITC) staff in providing technology support for HCC Administration, the Clinical Trials Office, and HCC members. Support should be provided as requested by leadership, beyond the HCC employees and members.
  • Work with IT Director to support strategic leadership for ITC operations, including new equipment rollouts, technology procurement planning, and coordination of technology support for office relocations across all HCC divisions.
  • Oversee the development of user training materials, SOPs, and "how-to" documentation to promote self-service and enhance staff technology proficiency.
  • Ensure accurate inventory management and asset tagging for all technology procured and distributed by the HCC IT team. Inventory management includes initial purchasing, assignment, distribution, ongoing maintenance, and collection upon separation or at the end of the technology lifecycle.
  • Maintain customer service performance expectations to ensure high-quality support and responsiveness.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee customer support policies, procedures, and service standards to drive consistency and operational excellence.

25% Event Management

  • In collaboration with the ITC and IT Director, provide technical support to meetings and events as requested by HCC directors, administration, staff, or outside users.
  • Ensure the smooth operation of presentations and training environments by ensuring coverage, assisting with setup, troubleshooting and live support to include moderation.
  • Support the systems and teams responsible for the running of National Cancer Institute (NCI) Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) Site visits, HCC External Scientific Advisory Board (ESAB) visits, VIP events and other Hollings sponsored meetings and events. These events may be hosted on MUSC campus or at offsite regional locations.
  • Coordinates the technology needs for large meetings, symposiums, retreats, and special events by recommending IT solutions, ordering and transporting equipment, setting up audiovisual and computer equipment, providing on-site technical support, and ensuring successful event execution.
  • Coordinate technology support for NCI site visits, CCSG planning sessions, External Scientific Advisory Board meetings, peer review activities, and other high-profile events critical to Cancer Center operations and accreditation.

20% Customer Support

  • Provides exceptional customer service and technical support to faculty, staff, researchers, and administrative departments by ensuring timely resolution of IT issues, maintaining effective communication, and delivering technology solutions that support HCC's operational and research missions.
  • Provide comprehensive technical support for desktop and mobile computing environments by installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting hardware and software systems. Responsibilities include re-imaging and deploying computers, installing and upgrading operating systems and applications, configuring user workstations, managing peripheral devices, and ensuring systems meet organizational security and compliance requirements.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to computers, printers, networks, and software applications; provide end-user support and training; perform routine system updates and patch management; and document support activities to ensure efficient and reliable technology operations.
