Job Overview

The Regional Volunteer Services Officer (RVSO) will oversee volunteer programs, ensuring sufficient volunteers to meet operational needs. The RVSO directs staff and volunteers, implements strategy, manages processes, cultivates relationships, and ensures coordinated outreach and partnerships. This role is hybrid and can be based in Columbia, Greenville, Myrtle Beach, or North Charleston.

Responsibilities
  • Lead regional volunteer engagement, connecting communities with Red Cross service opportunities across disaster response, blood services, and military family programs.
  • Build strong community partnerships, develop volunteer leaders, and foster an inclusive volunteer culture.
  • Ensure volunteer readiness through strategic workforce planning and data‑driven systems.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders as part of the Regional Leadership Team to integrate volunteer engagement into regional strategy.
  • Develop, implement and execute strategy to advance volunteer services, and oversee risk management issues specific to volunteer services.
  • Lead and empower a team to implement streamlined programs, activities, systems, and processes.
  • Manage volunteer and paid staff, including hiring, training, coaching, evaluating, and performance management.
  • Design and monitor metrics, presenting key performance indicators to management.
  • Build relationships with internal partners, community members, and external organizations to strengthen brand and volunteer experience.
  • Lead project/program implementations.
  • May have budgetary responsibility; may coordinate grants in contract‑funded programs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Excellent organizational, teamwork, and multi‑prioritization skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including training, presentation, and negotiation.
  • Travel may be required.
  • Combination of education and experience may satisfy requirements if total years equate to the minimum, but management experience cannot be substituted.
Physical Requirements

The job requires sitting, handling tasks with hands, talking and hearing, frequent reaching with hands and arms, occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. The employee must lift up to 15 pounds regularly and up to 30 pounds occasionally. The work environment is moderate noise, typically in a business office with computers and printers. The employee must be able to sit at a computer terminal for extended periods.
