You will coordinate the day‑to‑day activities of a team of production workers to ensure that manufacturing operations run according to established production specifications and schedules, while supporting team members at Mercedes‑Benz Vans building state‑of‑the‑art vans for the American automotive market. You will oversee in‑process quality inspections of vans and help communicate effectively with production personnel to create awareness of quality issues that leads to effective resolution.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee in‑process quality inspections of vans by
    • Reading and comprehending checklist inspection points and locating the targeted area for inspection
    • Using instruments such as magnifiers, electronic instruments, micrometers, snap gauges, and special fixtures and verifying calibration against standards
    • Identifying, evaluating and determining the severity of a defect based on the Van Benchmark Catalog NQ rating scale
    • Conducting needed inspections in the established takt time
    • Inputting defects into QSYS and on FBK
    • Properly clearing defects in QSYS and on the FBK
    • Inspecting FBKs for conformance to stamping requirements
    • Identifying the correct process owner for a defect and communicating with them
    • Verifying correction of defects if/when corrected in‑station
    • Determining next process step for vehicles with defects (light tunnel/EOL only)
  • Conduct and participate in regularly scheduled meetings
  • Regular co‑working at the working stations
  • Reliever/supporter in the case of minimal qualifications
  • Act as a short‑term replacement for (un) scheduled temporary absence according to regulation
  • Support in the case of vans with special equipment
  • Function as utility person and replacement
  • Support the process of solving team internal cooperation problems
  • Report disruptions, organize disruption management
  • Ensure cyclic check of instruments
  • Act as first contact person for other teams
  • Support with/elimination of Q‑Alarm
  • Support and foster integration of employees
  • Execution of Q‑Check (at Product)
  • Initiate and foster continuous improvement of the work environment and ergonomics
  • Act as the technical lead of the team
    • Communicate, improve and monitor standards
    • Coordinate absence planning (vacation, free shifts, etc.)
    • Execute one‑point lessons
    • Organize and execute shift organization
    • Establish and maintain adherence to rotation plan
    • Guarantee and execute Q‑check
    • Maintain board with indicators/process folder
    • Responsible for adhering to team targets
    • Initiate and regulate problem‑solving process
    • Develop and update qualification matrix
    • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 2+ years of manufacturing experience OR relevant certificate and 1+ year of relevant experience required
  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience OR relevant certificate and 2+ years of relevant experience preferred
  • Must have knowledge in the application of quality inspection methods
  • Must possess strong people and persuasion skills
  • Basic computer skills required (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Must possess knowledge of scope of work and processes
  • Lean/MPS basic knowledge and experience
  • Internal candidates must have completed the required MBV Team Leader Training Program
