Development Coordinator - Volunteer Position

Leveling the Fields is a programs-focused nonprofit dedicated to increasing the number of girls in sports, recognizing the strong correlation between sports participation and future leadership roles. We are committed to breaking down barriers and providing universal access to sports, regardless of financial constraints, geographical limitations, or lack of options. Through our Empower Play and Play Fit programs, we aim to get more girls into sports, keep them engaged, and equip them with the tools needed to thrive as future leaders.

The Empower Play Program is a dynamic multi-sport after-school program aimed at empowering girls through athletics and is designed specifically for girls in 3rd through 5th grade. The program is run onsite at the elementary school. Over the nine weeks, participants learn the fundamentals of each sport while building teamwork and confidence. Our program is designed to foster self-acceptance, positive body image, and good sportsmanship through our unique empowerment journal.

For girls in low‑income areas, the program is offered at no cost to families.

The Play Fit Enrichment Program is a weekly add-on designed to complement existing after-school programs, offering a fun and engaging way for 3rd‑5th grade girls to stay active and build confidence. The program focuses on a single sport, allowing participants to deepen their skills, and is available in a 6‑week or 8‑week format. With on‑site coaching and equipment provided, Play Fit makes it easy for girls to explore sports and develop teamwork and leadership skills.

Designed to be accessible for all, this program brings empowerment and physical activity directly to your after-school care.

Leveling the Fields is a Charleston-based nonprofit ensuring that every girl, regardless of income or zip code, has equal access to sports and leadership opportunities. Our flagship Empower Play program combines athletics with an empowerment curriculum designed to build confidence, resilience, and future‑ready leaders.

We are seeking passionate and organized volunteers to support our development (fundraising) efforts. As a Development Volunteer, you will play a key role in helping us grow our donor base, steward existing supporters, and build the foundation for long-term sustainability. This role is ideal for someone interested in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, and community engagement.

• Research potential donors, corporate sponsors, and foundations.
• Assist with writing and editing donor letters and sponsorship packages.
• Help manage donor database (Give Butter, spreadsheets, etc.) and track outreach.
• Support planning and outreach for fundraising campaigns (e.g., Giving Tuesday).
• Identify and connect with local businesses for in‑kind or corporate partnerships.
• Assist with donor communications (emails, thank‑you notes, social posts).
• Collaborate with the Development Lead and other volunteers to hit fundraising goals.

• Previous fundraising, sales, or nonprofit experience is a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfortable with online research and organizing information.
• Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to meet deadlines.
• Passion for youth sports, girls’ empowerment, and community impact.

• Flexible, approx. 5–15 hours per week (remote or in‑person).
• Minimum 3‑month commitment.
