Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - First Assist Outpatient Neurosurgery - MUSCP

Job Description Summary
:
The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will provide support to Neurosurgeon(s) during outpatient visits; provide care in spine/neuro-surgery outpatient clinics; collaborate with Neurosurgery teams, hospital and outpatient care teams to coordinate patient care; communicate with patients regarding care and concerns; provide administrative support and follow up to ensure patient care is orderly and effective; follow protocols for clinical trials, if necessary.

• Provide direct patient care in outpatient spine/neurosurgery settings.
• Collaborate with neurosurgery teams, hospital departments, and outpatient care teams to coordinate patient care.
• Communicate with patients regarding care plans and concerns; document and bill for direct care provided.
• Follow protocols for clinical trials when applicable.
• Assist with administrative tasks and follow up to ensure orderly and effective patient care.
• Maintain licenses, certifications and continuing education requirements as applicable.
• Plan, advocate for and optimize use of operating room block time and pre-authorizations for surgical cases as needed.
• Triages outpatient calls and coordinates paperwork to support direct patient care; communicate with family members and refers as appropriate; ensure care is coordinated through discharge and follow-up.
• Utilize EPIC or equivalent electronic medical record systems to document patient care activities in a timely manner.

• Master's degree in Nursing or an accredited Physician Assistant program; current licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Physician Assistant or APRN, as applicable.
• Certification as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the area of employment, unless a new graduate (eligible for certification within six months of employment).
• For SC: current RN license and official recognition as a Nurse Practitioner from the South Carolina Board of Nursing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; licensure, certifications and registrations must be current prior to start date.
• Preferred:
  At least 3 years of outpatient spine/neurosurgery experience.

Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods; ability to bend, kneel, reach; manual dexterity; vision requirements; ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally; ability to work indoors in a latex-safe environment.
