Job Description Summary
The 82 bed Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is in MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital. Most of the beds are private rooms except for 10 semi-private rooms and 7 couplet care rooms. The couplet care rooms allow for admitted postpartum moms to be cared for by a postpartum nurse in the same room as their admitted NICU baby. The Neonatal ICU is the regional referral center for this area, providing care to premature and sick neonates.
The Neonatal ICU provides medical and surgical care with the most common diagnoses including prematurity, respiratory distress, congenital heart defects and neonatal surgical conditions. In addition to respiratory and nutritional support, the NICU provides ECMO/CRRT and surgical support. Pediatric Palliative care is available as needed. The Neonatal ICU is located on the 5th floor of the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Hospital.
Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal‑directed patient care to families and patients at a competent level utilizing the principles and practices of the nursing process; delivers safe and effective care and interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired results.

Job Summary /PurposeUnder general supervision, the Registered Nurse I (New Graduate) assists at the advanced beginner level in providing individualized, goal directed nursing care to patients and families utilizing principles and practices of the nursing process; interacts with other members of the health care team to achieve desired outcomes.
Minimum Training and EducationBachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff hired on or after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree in nursing are required to be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and successfully obtain a BSN degree within four years of the RN hire or reclassification date.
Required Licensure, Certifications, and RegistrationsLicensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
