Medical University of South Carolina Admit-Transfer Center
MUSC is seeking a dedicated and skilled nurse for our high-volume Admissions Transfer Center. This elite team of professionals is the hub for all admissions and transfers across our 16-hospital system in South Carolina and manages approximately 2000 beds, coordinating approximately 1500 transfers monthly and 1000 phone calls daily.
The RN will be a key contact, facilitating patient transfers to MUSC hospitals from MUSC as well as non-MUSC facilities. This position collaborates with our Patient Placement representatives and acts as a clinical resource and facilitator. The RN will utilize technology for multi-faceted communications and apply nursing knowledge derived from education and experience. This position will help direct transfers, admissions, bed requests from inpatient, outpatient, clinics, pre-admits, and requests for cardiovascular and medical/surgical services.
Job duties include:
* Creates patient records in the Electronic Medical Record and update active accounts regularly.
* Demonstrates broad spectrum of knowledge and clinical competence related to assessing the patient transfer and placement needs, including those associated with invasive and noninvasive procedures, surgeries, STEMIs and Code Strokes.
* Identify clinical and departmental barriers and collaborates with the interdisciplinary care teams to eliminate choke points and maximize patient throughput at MUSC
* Coordinates hospital-to-hospital transfers, in accordance with state and federal regulations.
* Provides medical interpretation of diagnoses and specialized patient care needs.
* Serves as a hospital and physician resource and is proficient in maintaining compliance with Access to Care Laws.
* Provides follow-up to referring practitioners and facilities regarding referral status time frames.
* Provide a high level of customer service

Education and Experience:
* Associates degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing and (5) five years of work experience as a registered nurse. BSN preferred.
* Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
* Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
Preferred Requirements:
* EPIC user experience
* Leadership experience, including Charge Nurse, Nurse Supervisor, and/or Nurse Manager
* Experience in patient flow throughput and Call Center preferred
Shift Information:
* 0.9 FTE, 36 hours/week
* Three, 12-hour shifts (Day shift)
* 7:00am - 7:00pm
* Rotating Holidays, Weekends, and Storm Coverage required for all positions
Physical Requirements:

(C) Ability to use lower extremities for balance and coordination. (F) Ability to reach in all directions. (C) Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted. (I) Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted.
(I) Ability to lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. (I) Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. (F) Examples include:
To transfer a 100 lb. patient that can not assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand.
