Job Description Summary
The MUSC College of Nursing invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the Graduate Practice Program (GPP), with a focus on the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) track. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated FNP to join a collaborative academic community committed to preparing the next generation of advanced practice nurses.
The successful candidate will contribute to the College’s teaching mission through didactic, clinical, and student-centered instruction in the MSN and DNP programs. The faculty member will also maintain clinical practice as an FNP as part of the faculty role and is expected to relocate to the Charleston, South Carolina area upon hire.
Minimum Qualifications• Earned master’s degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner and eligibility for South Carolina APRN licensure.
• Current national certification as an FNP.
• At least two years of APRN practice experience in primary care or a related setting.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; commitment to student success, professional collaboration, and advanced practice nursing education.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from a recognized organization such as the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• MSN-prepared candidates must enroll in a doctoral program or begin a DNP or PhD program within the first two years of employment.
• DNP or doctoral degree in nursing or related field.
• Current national board certification as an FNP and evidence of commitment to professional scholarship.
• Prior teaching experience, including precepting APRN students.
• Experience or interest in competency-based, case-based, and problem-based learning; student-centered teaching.
• Experience with graduate online teaching methods.
- Facilitate engaging asynchronous and limited synchronous online learning experiences for MSN and DNP students.
- Implement innovative, competency-based teaching strategies to promote student learning and clinical reasoning.
- Participate in on-campus learning intensives on non-clinical days.
- Collaborate with faculty teams to evaluate and strengthen curriculum aligned with contemporary graduate nursing education standards.
- Support ongoing curriculum review, quality improvement, and mapping to the AACN Essentials for Nursing Education.
- Serve as course coordinator or contributing faculty as assigned.
- Maintain clear and timely communication with students, course coordinators, faculty colleagues, and program leadership.
- Engage in professional FNP practice in primary care or a related field as part of the faculty contract (minimum of 20% effort, or 8 hours per week).
- Precept MUSC College of Nursing APRN students in clinical practice settings.
- Maintain all required FNP credentials, licensure, and national certifications.
- Develop and maintain a record of scholarship through dissemination, presentations, publications, and other activities in accordance with College promotion guidelines.
- Supervise APRN students in clinical settings, review clinical documentation, evaluate progress, and communicate with preceptors.
- Facilitate DNP scholarly project work as assigned.
- Participate in course, program, and College meetings in person or via web-based technology.
- Adhere to MUSC College of Nursing policies and expectations.
- Maintain ongoing proficiency as an educator and clinician.
- Support a College culture grounded in respect, equity, belonging, collaboration, and professional excellence.
• Ability to perform job functions in upright, seated, walking/mobile positions.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Ability to work in confined or cramped spaces, perform pinching, kneeling, squatting, repetitive motions, and reach in all directions.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 15 lbs. (unassisted).
