Job Description Summary
The Nursing Professional Development Specialist I reports to the Director of Nursing Excellence and the Manager of Clinical Excellence Education. Under indirect supervision, the Specialist consults with nursing leadership, ICCE, organizational leadership, and the interprofessional team to lead, develop, implement, and evaluate evidence‑based, quality, and educational programs and activities that promote professional competency and role performance for nursing, interprofessional, and non‑licensed clinical staff.

- Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing and a minimum of five years of applied clinical experience as an RN.
- Master’s degree preferred; must complete a Master’s degree in Nursing within 4 years of hire.
- Work experience in an education role (clinical education, professional development, academic faculty) preferred.
- Knowledge of Nursing Professional Development, adult learning theory, evidence‑based practice, and measurement of outcomes preferred.
- Ability to establish collaborative working relationships with diverse groups and individuals, medical staff, and other health care providers required.
- Must complete the Association of Nursing Professional Development Transition to Nursing Professional Development Practice Fellowship in the first 6 months of hire.
- Current South Carolina licensure as a registered nurse or compact state required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (AHA or equivalent).
Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors and outdoors in temperature extremes, from elevated areas, in confined or cramped spaces, from kneeling positions, bending, twisting, squatting, pinching, gross motor activities with fingers and hands, firm grasping, fine manipulation, reaching overhead, repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows/shoulders, using both legs, lower extremities for balance and coordination, reaching in all directions, lifting and carrying 50 lbs.
unassisted, lifting/lowering objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted, lifting from 36" to overhead 25 lbs., exerting up to 50 lbs. of force, maintaining 20/40 vision corrected in one eye or with both eyes, and seeing and recognizing objects close at hand or at a distance.
