Registered Nurse II

Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse II provides individualized, goal‑directed patient care to families and patients utilizing the nursing process principles and practices. The RN delivers safe and effective care and collaborates with other healthcare team members to achieve desired outcomes.

Bachelor of Nursing degree preferred. RN staff with an Associate or Diploma degree hired on or after July 1, 2013 must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program within two years and obtain the BSN within four years of hire or reclassification. Minimum one year of registered nurse experience required. Refer to policy A141 for details.

• Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certificates (AHA BLS or equivalent; AHA PALS or equivalent).

Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking and climbing stairs. Ability to work indoors and outdoors, from elevated and confined areas. Ability to lift and carry 50 lb unassisted, move objects up to 36 in. to a height of 25 lb, and exert up to 50 lb of force. Vision 20/40 corrected, hearing acuity with correction. Demonstrated ability to handle stressful situations and work rotating shifts and overtime as required.

• Provide nursing care using the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation stages.
• Direct and lead assigned team members, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and provide age‑ and developmentally‑appropriate care.
• Develop nursing diagnoses, plan and implement interventions, coordinate care, and educate patients and families.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and healing environment, ensuring patient privacy and professionalism.
• Participate in shared governance, adhere to standards of care, engage in peer review and professional development to promote leadership and clinical excellence.
• Apply care‑management principles to coordinate effective delivery of patient care services and identify clinical priorities.

• Stand or sit for extended periods.
• Manual dexterity and fine motor skills for vitals, injections, exams.
• Lifting and moving patients or equipment as needed.
• Accurate visual acuity and color perception for charts, documents, monitors.
• Effective auditory communication and perception of alarms.
• Stamina and resilience for long shifts and stressful situations.
• Mobility throughout clinical environments.
• Compliance with infection control protocols and use of personal protective equipment.
