Registered Nurse Operating Room
Position available for an Ambulatory Operating Room RN. The shift is 10 hours, four times per week, from 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Scheduled days off will be based on departmental needs, but special requests will be considered if possible. Scheduled late shifts may occur a few times per month. On-call requirements are not applicable. There is a possibility of floating within the perioperative facility to meet needs.
Candidates should have experience in specialties that align with the current caseload. First-time travelers are not accepted for this position. Local candidates residing within a 60-mile radius are accepted. All requests for time off must be included at the time of submission. Approval for time off will be based on facility needs. The facility may call off 10 hours per two-week period, and travelers may be called off for one shift every two weeks.
This unit supports a variety of patients with several specialties. Responsibilities include preparing patients prior to surgery by reviewing their history, reconciling medications, obtaining vital signs, starting IVs, and administering premedications as ordered. Recovery includes monitoring patients' vital signs through various phases and reviewing discharge instructions. The unit collaborates closely with surgeons, anesthesia, and other nursing staff to ensure safe and effective patient care in a fast-paced environment.
Scheduled procedures include orthopedic surgeries, interventional radiology, and gastrointestinal procedures. The unit features two operating rooms, with a daily census averaging 10-20 patients across five operating rooms. The surgical block is from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional late stays. Special equipment includes standard OR equipment and specialized orthopedic positioning tools. Professional skills should include administration and handling of various surgical procedures within the operating room.
Candidates should be proficient in surgeries related to orthopedics and possess scrub abilities, although the latter is not required.
