Patient population:
The CIU is an 18-bed adult acute care (Med-Surge) level unit. The unit is divided into a 6 bed Acute Care side and a 12-bed side that will serve patients with a medical condition that necessitates an inpatient stay while also having a mental or behavioral health component to their care. Care Team Members (CTM's) that are working on the acute care side will have 2 nurses for the 6 patients (1:3 nurse to patient ratio) as the units are separated by badge access doors.
The CTM's on the Behavioral Health side with the 12 patients will have 3 nurses for the 12 patients (1:4 nurse to patient ratio). When fully staffed the unit will have a free float charge that assists both sides of the unit as well as patient care technicians.
Hurricane Season:
Travelers should be aware that during hurricane season, all employees and contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams. If this is a problem, please ensure travelers do not confirm a new or extended assignment during the season. Hurricane season runs from June through November each year. The peak months for hurricane activity are August and September.
