Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Ambulatory OR RN with pre/post surgical and orthopedic case experience for a day-shift position requiring an SC or Compact RN license.

Details
  • Ambulatory Operating Room setting handling pre-operative and post-anesthesia care
  • Unit includes 20 pre/post bays, 2 ORs, 2 GI procedural rooms, and 1 VIR procedural room, staffed by 10 RNs and 1 PCT
  • Patient population includes Orthopedics (total joints, arthroscopy, hand, shoulder & elbow cases), Interventional Radiology (VIR), and GI (upper and lower scopes)
  • 1:1 patient ratio
  • Day shift schedule of four 10-hour shifts per week, 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with occasional later shifts a few times per month
  • Scheduled day off determined by department needs, though special requests may be considered
  • Possible floating within the Periop facility to meet facility needs
  • No on-call requirements
  • Uses Epic EMR (experience preferred)
Requirements
  • Active SC or Compact RN license required
  • Current BLS certification (AHA only)
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Experience required in Ophthalmology, Ortho, ENT, GYN, GU, Endocrine, Surgical Oncology, Plastics, Robotics, and Total Joints
  • Unit does not perform general surgery, L&D, or pediatric cases, so relevant specialty experience is required
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Teaching hospital and community hospital experience preferred
  • Skills in cardiac monitoring, infection control, laser and radiation safety, specimen handling, peripheral IV starts, universal protocol (time-out) procedures, urinary catheterization, and wound management preferred
  • Scrub ability for arthroscopic and orthopedic surgeries a plus but not required
  • Valid driver's license and SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
  • Responsible for prepping patients prior to surgery, including history review, home medication reconciliation, vital signs, EKGs, IV starts, FSBS, and administering IV fluids, antibiotics, and pre-medications as ordered
  • Provides post-anesthesia recovery care, including monitoring patients through all phases of post-anesthesia care and reviewing discharge instructions
  • Capable of discharging patients via wheelchair to vehicle
  • Works closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and OR nurses in a fast-paced environment
  • Radiation badge will be provided by parent company
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
  • Local candidates accepted within a 60-mile radius, though non-local candidates are prioritized
  • Previous MUSC perm or PRN staff must be separated from the system for at least 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • All requested time off must be submitted at the time of application, with approval based on facility needs
  • Multiple RTO requests within an 8-13 week contract will generally be denied
  • During hurricane season (June through November), staff may be assigned to emergency response teams
