Job Description Summary
The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Hematology & Oncology is recruiting for an Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) to work full time primarily in the Pediatric Sickle Cell Clinic and some Pediatric Hematology Clinic at Shawn Jenkin’s Children’s Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina.
Responsibilities also include providing health maintenance and disease prevention based on appropriate age and concomitant risk factors. Following established protocols, nurse practitioners/physician assistants assume responsibility for patient care management of a variety of patient populations. Duties will include comprehensive orders for clinic visits, evaluation and management of patients, progress notes, and care coordination. The APP demonstrates leadership skills, establishes effective relationships with patients, their families and members of patient care.
The APP will function within the requirements of the State of South Carolina Board of Nursing or SC Board of Medical Examiners including designation of supervising/collaborating physician, alternate physicians and written protocols/scopes of practice guidelines, updated annually.

Job Description Fair Labor Standards Act Status:
Salaried/Exempt Hours per week: 40 Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: Full Time Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:00pm
Patient Population Focus Outpatient, Infusion Suite, Management/Consultation
Patient Population Age Range 0 years to 25 years
Required Minimum Training And Experience Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN as noted below.
- Primary Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PCPNP/PNP):
Pediatric patients (birth to age 21), stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting. - Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP): (birth to death) Stable chronic disease state management, primary care across the lifespan.
- Pediatric Acute Care NP (PACNP):
Pediatric pts (birth to age 21), acutely ill or injured, potentially unstable or technologically dependent.
Preferred APP Work Experience Minimum of 1 year experience as a PA or NP working with sickle cell or hematology patients is preferred.
Degree of Supervision Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant will be assigned a Primary Supervising/Collaborating Physician employed by MUSC and will report directly to this physician.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day.
- Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure

- Documents and bills for direct care provided
- Utilizes current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice
