Laboratory Support Technician

GEL Laboratories, LLC, an affiliate of The GEL Group, Inc., is looking for a Support Technician to join our team of professionals in our Charleston, SC office to receive samples from clients and inspect for proper container, temperature, preservatives, etc. This position focuses on following procedures describing how to properly receive samples from clients in support of environmental compliance programs for water, soil, and hazardous waste samples.

This entry-level role necessitates strong attention to detail, proven ability to work both quickly and efficiently in a warehouse atmosphere, and the ability to work within a team structure. The successful candidate will be an effective communicator, have flexibility to come in early, stay late, and work weekends based on shipments of samples needing to be processed, and possess a general understanding of laboratory protocols and procedures.

The Support Technician will be responsible for:

• Receiving samples from clients and inspecting for proper containers, temperatures, preservatives, etc.
• Completing sample receipt forms based on method requirements and documenting any deviations.
• Communicating issues to Project Managers as they arise.
• Labeling sample containers and placing in appropriate storage locations.
• Filling sample bottle requests from clients.
• Assisting in sub-contracting of samples to other laboratories.
• Supporting archiving and staging of samples.
• Demonstrating and supporting GEL core values.
• Conducting tasks that support other operations in the laboratory.

Qualifications for Support Technician:

• High School Diploma required.
• Six months of shipping and receiving or related experience.
• Associate’s degree (with science or laboratory course completion) preferred.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions to properly receive samples from clients.
• Exhibits organizational skills and attention to detail.
• May work a Monday – Friday schedule or a Tuesday – Saturday schedule.

Physical Requirements and Working Environment:

This position requires working in a busy production laboratory successfully receiving and processing samples from around the world. Safety is a priority and negligence is not tolerated. Safety equipment is provided, and use is mandatory.
