Position

Technician 3 – Technologies Team, Charleston, SC (Full‑time)

Primary Role

The Technician 3 works as part of a team to install, maintain, and repair cabling and devices for low voltage systems, under the direction of a Technologies Project Manager or Superintendent. The role includes leading teams of 4‑6 members, performing field work, and ensuring high quality in compliance with contractual documents, codes, and company standards.

Responsibilities
  • Lead teams of 4‑6 technicians to install, repair, terminate, certify, label, and troubleshoot low voltage cabling and devices.
  • Supervise, train, and develop other technicians.
  • Perform independent installations and determine pathways without supervision.
  • Install, terminate, certify, and label cabling for systems such as Infrastructure (ITS), Access Control/Security Cameras (CCTV), and Paging.
  • Install devices for Access Control/Security Cameras (CCTV), Access Points (Wi‑Fi), and Paging.
  • Respond to service calls, troubleshoot faults in Copper (analog), Fiber, Audio/Visual (AV), and CCTV systems.
  • Maintain inventory and materials for assigned sites.
  • Plan and communicate task schedules and goals to team members.
  • Build MDF, IDF, enclosures, ladder trays, baskets, and install 2‑4‑post racks.
  • Punch down, route, label, and dress all cabling entering racks or enclosures.
  • Install and maintain Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems in racks or enclosures.
  • Use and interpret test equipment, including copper and fiber test results.
  • Follow BICSI, ANSI, TIA standards and NEC codes for low voltage installations.
  • Maintain detailed records of device and cable locations and test results.
  • Ensure safe use of tools, proper fire stopping, and work in various environments.
  • Communicate delays or obstacles to immediate supervisor and seek guidance.
Requirements
  • Minimum 4 years of verified experience with low voltage systems and cabling.
  • Proficient in installing and troubleshooting Infrastructure (ITS), Access Control/Security, CCTV, Fiber, AV, and Paging systems.
  • Ability to install devices for Access Control/Security, CCTV, Wi‑Fi, and Paging.
  • Manufacturer certifications in Uni‑Cam fiber terminations and Mini‑Com terminations or willingness to obtain them.
  • Experience building MDF, IDF, enclosures, ladder trays, baskets, and 2‑4‑post racks.
  • Experienced with punch down, routing, labeling, and dressing cabling for racks or enclosures.
  • Knowledge of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) installation in racks or enclosures.
  • Understanding of Multi‑Mode vs. Single‑Mode fiber and ability to terminate data jacks and mod plugs.
  • Proficient with test equipment, fluke testing software, COINS, Box, Microsoft Office, and related software.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, drawings, wire maps, and specifications.
  • Clear, detailed record‑keeping skills.
  • Knowledge of fire stopping, riser/plenum spaces, and NEC codes.
  • Physical ability and willingness to travel to client sites as needed.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and decision‑making skills.
