Position: Accounting Technician 2 - DHS - DCR - Huttonsville Correctional Center & Jail - Randolph Co.

Position Overview

Under general supervision, the Accounting Tech 2 provides entry‑level accounting support as a trustee clerk at the correctional facility. Responsibilities include routine posting and adjusting of the general ledger, processing claims and invoices, reviewing transactions for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with state and federal laws and regulations, and performing related work as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare deposits daily and checks for inmate money transfers, releases, and other disbursements.
  • Enter all incoming money orders and manage the rapid release and debit card system.
  • Send daily receipts to units, keep all files orderly and organized for auditing purposes, balance accounts daily, and provide weekly and monthly reports to units.
  • Maintain spreadsheets to confirm balances are correct and deducted accurately, including court orders, clerk orders, restitution, and child support.
  • Keep supervisors updated of any errors or unusual events.
  • Assist with purchasing and accounts payable as needed.
  • Work one 12‑hour security shift per week.
Compensation

Base starting rate of pay: $35,273. In accordance with SPB 3088 effective 10/7/23, an additional $5,000 will be added to the minimum starting rate for all classifications within a Critical Vacancy Pay Supplemental Facility. Employees receive an annual base building pay differential of $250 after completing one year of service. The $5,000 differential is removed if an employee transfers out of a CVPF (unless moving to another CVPF).

Minimum Qualifications
  • Training:
    Graduation from a standard four‑year high school or the equivalent.
  • Experience:

    Two (2) years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid bookkeeping, accounting or related experience.
  • Substitution:
    Successful completion of college‑level accounting courses from an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of three semester hours equals six months of experience. Alternatively, related business school or vocational training may be substituted for experience through an established formula.
