Are you a highly organized administrative professional looking for a meaningful career in state public health?

The West Virginia Department of Health is seeking a Case Management Specialist to join the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) in Charleston. In this vital role, you will serve as the central link between our diverse agency sections and our forensic pathologists. You will work directly with assigned physicians, providing the essential clerical, research, and technical support needed to manage medicolegal death investigation case files.

This is a unique opportunity to apply your administrative talents to the critical fields of public health and forensic science.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pathologist Support: Provide direct administrative assistance to one or more forensic pathologists.
  • Case File Workflow: Gather critical data, documents, and evidence to supplement autopsy findings.
  • Records & System Management: Organize case records and manage data entry in the electronic system.
  • Stakeholder Relations: Act as a key point of contact for external stakeholders and route completed reports.
  • Office Operations: Handle transcription, professional correspondence, mail, typing, and forms.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain strict accuracy across all reports to determine cause and manner of death.
Qualifications & Helpful Skills

We will provide training on our specific procedures, but experience in any of the following fields will help you transition smoothly into this role:

  • Medical Office Background: Familiarity with medical terminology or medical records management.
  • Administrative

    Skills:

    Previous secretarial experience, digital transcription, and accurate typing skills.
  • Analytical Mindset: Basic experience or exposure to investigative environments or legal document handling.
