Job Title: Field Safety Specialist – Pipeline Construction
Location: WV, PA, KY, and potential for additional areas.
Employment Type: Full-Time
Travel Requirement: Extensive field travel to project sites, for extended durations.
Position OverviewThe Field Safety Specialist supports pipeline construction operations by implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving the organization’s Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs. This role ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as client and company safety standards. The position is field-based and requires consistent presence at active construction sites to provide guidance, conduct audits, facilitate training, and influence safe work behaviors.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct daily site inspections and field audits to identify hazards, verify compliance, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Monitor adherence to company safety programs, project-specific safety plans, and industry regulations (OSHA, DOT, PHMSA, state requirements).
- Assist in development of Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), tailgate meetings, and other work planning activities to ensure hazard controls are in place.
- Support incident response and investigation, including root-cause analysis and preparation of required documentation.
- Provide coaching to field personnel, subcontractors, and supervisors to strengthen safety culture and reinforce expectations.
- Conduct new-hire safety orientations, drug/alcohol testing, and task-specific training.
- Review and evaluate permits (hot work, confined space, excavation, line break, etc.) for accuracy and proper control measures.
- Track leading and lagging safety indicators, prepare safety reports, and communicate findings to project management.
- Partner with construction management to implement proactive risk mitigation strategies.
- Ensure proper utilization, inspection, and maintenance of personal protective equipment and safety systems.
- Coordinate with environmental staff to ensure compliance with environmental controls, spill prevention measures, and waste-handling protocols.
- Minimum 3–5 years of field safety experience in pipeline construction, oil and gas, or heavy civil/industrial construction.
- Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926, 1910, API standards, PHMSA regulations, and pipeline industry best practices.
- Proven ability to influence safe work behaviors and collaborate effectively with diverse field teams.
- Strong incident investigation and report-writing skills.
- Ability to work in challenging outdoor environments, including remote locations and variable weather.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Experience with Veriforce/ ITS/ IS Networld, as an evaluator for Operator Qualifications (OQ).
- Associates degree (or higher) in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, or other relevant safety related disciplines.
- Recognized safety credentials such as CHST, CSP, GSP, etc.
