Position: Title I Curriculum Assistant Principal

School Principal

To serve in a twofold capacity as instructional leader of the school and to serve as manager of facilities and administrative operations; in accordance with West Virginia School Law to serve as the delegated administrator responsible for the planning and management, operation and evaluation of the programs and services within the school.

Supervises:
Teachers, student teachers, secretary, aides, custodians, cooks and volunteers.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements, and continually evaluates curriculum, instructional programs and support activities to improve student achievement and ensure continual progress to meet or exceed national, state, and local academic standards.
  • Supports the development of interdisciplinary teacher teams that are integral to the school improvement process.
  • Uses multiple data sources to assess, identify and apply instructional improvements and to positively impact student achievement.
  • Works actively with teachers and staff in determining effective instructional practices.
  • May serve as principal in the absence of the regular principal.
  • Creates, manages, and sustains a safe and orderly school environment, setting and communicating high expectations for student behavior and ensuring effective and appropriate prevention and intervention strategies.
  • Builds and promotes a positive and supportive school climate that shows interest and caring for students.
  • Conducts rigorous outreach to engage and involve parents and community in student support, instruction and governance.
  • Establishes an environment of collaboration and empowers and engages staff in participatory decision-making.
  • Analyzes and uses school enrollment data to plan, direct, monitor, and evaluate annual school budget for all resources for school day, before and after-school, summer, and other programs and activities.
  • Follows the established evaluation procedures for evaluating all school staff.

Instruction:

  • Develops a program that provides for various instructional levels and interests.
  • Encourages the use of multiple procedures for the evaluation of student achievement.
  • Implements a procedure for instructional placement of new enrollees.
  • Provides instructional materials and equipment.
  • Assists in the implementation of the Content Standards and Objectives.
  • Attends to the professional care and use of student records.
  • Coordinates the curriculum with feeder schools.
  • Works with staff in developing the instructional program.
  • Designs and implements an effective scheduling procedure.
  • Provides for the inclusion of special curricular programs.
  • Assists in establishing and implementing a school improvement process.
  • Informs the community of existing instructional programs and activities.
  • Works with faculty to plan and implement staff development programs.
  • Evaluates instructional programs periodically and utilizes results in planning.
  • Assesses the effectiveness of school policies and procedures.
  • Conducts a continuous review of enrichment and extra-curricular programs.
  • Implements a system to monitor student progress.
  • Upgrades professional skills annually.
  • Encourages and supports the integration of technology into instruction.

Administrative Operations and Facilities Management:

  • Develops and implements a school philosophy.
  • Interprets and implements board policy.
  • Prepares and implements short and long range plans.
  • Provides efficient organization for daily school operations.
  • Works with staff, students, and parents to design and maintain an effective discipline policy.
  • Assists in effective attendance procedures.
  • Assists in the organization and supervises the management of extra-curricular activities.
  • Coordinates transportation.
  • Assists in the supervision the school food service program.
  • Replies to inquiries from the community courteously and promptly.
  • Communicates information, policies, and procedures to staff members.
  • Communicates information, policies, and procedures to students.
  • Provides parents with regular student progress reports.
  • Communicates regularly with school support organizations (PAC, PTA, LSIC, etc.).
  • Maintains communications with the various support divisions within the school system.
