Job Summary

This coordinator is responsible for collaborating with LEAs, LEA School Improvement Coordinators (SICs), and school leadership teams to support continuous school improvement efforts and identified statewide programs targeting schools that serve students in grades 6 through
8. This role provides strategic guidance and technical assistance to Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) schools and targeted middle schools through data analysis, school walkthroughs, professional learning, and ongoing progress monitoring aligned to the West Virginia Standards for Effective Schools. This coordinator assists targeted schools in identifying priorities, developing and monitoring strategic plans, implementing evidence-based interventions, and ensuring effective use of funds to improve student achievement, attendance, behavior, and overall school performance.

And Responsibilities

Demonstrates an understanding of the WV Standards for Effective Schools and develops resources that support implementation at the SEA, LEA, and school levels using a system-based approach to school improvement. Works collaboratively with school and district leadership to develop, implement, and monitor plans for continuous improvement. Works collaboratively with school and district leadership to provide and coordinate targeted support based upon data, diagnostic reviews, diagnostic reports, annual reports, and other reviews of educational programs.

Supports districts and schools in the collection, analysis, and use of multiple data sources to identify root causes, monitor implementation, and evaluate the impact of improvement efforts. Provides virtual and onsite technical assistance for districts and schools regarding school improvement and all ESEA programs. Supports the delivery of the West Virginia School Leadership Network (WVSLN) cohorts. Works collaboratively with districts and their pilot middle schools regarding best practices for leadership, student engagement, scheduling, and school culture.

Works collaboratively with other Department offices to ensure that technical assistance is provided to Comprehensive Support & Improvement (CSI) schools, additional targeted support schools, targeted support schools, and districts identified as in need of support. Conducts school improvement and leadership professional learning at the SEA, LEA and school levels. Monitors progress and submits written documentation of meetings and assistance provided to districts and schools.

Supports School Improvement Conference planning and collaboration with necessary support offices. Works to develop professional learning curriculum and technical assistance related to principal needs, student achievement, and improvement processes. Provides coaching and professional learning that strengthens principals' capacity as instructional leaders and supports the implementation of high-quality instructional practices aligned to the West Virginia College- and Career-Readiness Standards. Implements an improvement model that integrates support for low-performing schools with an emphasis on instructional leadership for continuous improvement.

Promotes policies and resources related to safe and supportive schools and appropriate student behavior. Assists in creation of resources related to research, proven practices, and the principalship. Travels as needed to provide onsite technical assistance, professional learning, and monitoring support. Performs other assignments as deemed appropriate and necessary by the State Board of Education, Associate/Assistant Superintendent, and the State Superintendent of Schools.

Education

And Experience

Master's degree in education required, with administrative certification preferred. West Virginia professional teaching certificate (Possess a current certificate or be eligible to apply). Building-level experience as a PK-8, middle/high (grades 7-12), or middle school administrator or academic leader is preferred. Demonstrated experience in leading school improvement efforts and working with school and district-level administrators. Administrative experience at the school and/or district levels in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs in relation to student achievement results preferred.

Knowledge of a) current federal, state, and local laws; b) research and best practices related to improving student achievement. Knowledge of and experience in the development of various programs that accommodate the educational needs of all learners, special education, and other federal programs. Research and evaluation skills necessary to conduct needs assessments, analyze data, and conduct program evaluation.
