Contracted Homebound Teacher

Immediate Supervisor:
Assistant Superintendent for Special Education and Student Support Services

FLSA Status:
Exempt

Employment Term: $25.00 an hour per hour of instruction as needed per homebound services outside of regularly contracted work day (if regular employee)

Salary: $25.00/hour

Evaluation:
Performance in this position will be evaluated by the Assistant Superintendent for Special Education and Student Support Services

1. Devise, with cooperating professionals, an instructional program for each homebound student assigned to him/her.

2. Meet with each student as required to provide instruction.

3. Work closely with student's parents and family for an understanding and solution of the student's problems.

4. Maintain and submit complete reports for parents, regular teachers, and the Office of Exceptional Students.

5. Discharge responsibility for obtaining all necessary textbooks and materials for the student.

6. Establish high standards and expectations for all students for academic performance and responsibility for behavior.

7. Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and other agencies associated with the school.

8. Plan and implement sequential learning experiences for students using a variety of instructional strategies, consistent with the district and school's philosophy, mission statement, instructional goals, school level objectives, and the Core Curriculum Content Standards.

9. Plan and implement instruction to ensure that homebound pupils exceed the State Core Curriculum Content Standards in one or more of the seven content areas:

• Language Arts Literacy
• Mathematics
• Science
• Social Studies

10. Engage the learners in differentiated learning experiences for the range of skill levels and developmental needs found in the assigned group of pupils, managing, when appropriate, multiple instructional activities simultaneously.

11. Use effective presentation skills when employing direct instruction, including appropriate vocabulary and examples, clear and legible visuals, and articulate and audible speech.

12. Use excellent written and oral English skills when communicating with students, parents, and colleagues.

13. Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive climate that encourages student responsibility, using positive motivation, clear classroom routines, challenging instructional strategies, and techniques.

14. Discipline students in a fair and consistent manner, using school approved procedures.

15. Establish a professional rapport with students that earns their respect.

16. Communicate regularly with parents, seeking their support and advice, so as to create a cooperative relationship to support the child in school.

17. Assess and diagnose the learning, social, and emotional needs and styles of students, using a variety of assessment techniques and data.

18. Plan and adjust the learning experiences accordingly, requesting advice and assistance from specialists when appropriate.

19. Assist with the preparation, monitoring, and following of Individualized Education Plans for selected students assigned to the class.

20. Employ a variety of methods for students to demonstrate learning and accomplishments. Evaluate and grade homework, assignments, and tests in a timely fashion, providing feedback to the student on performance.

21. Maintain records and provide evidence of growth and progress to parents and to students.

22. Ensure the safety and health of all students, notifying the administration of any unsafe conditions, following established procedures.

23. Serve as a role model for students, dressing and grooming professionally, demonstrating the importance and relevance of learning, accepting responsibility, and demonstrating pride in the honorable profession of teaching.

24. Maintain positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with the administration, instructional staff, students, parents, and representatives of resource agencies within the community.

25. Attend required staff meetings and serve, as appropriate, on staff committees. Participate in curriculum and program development, and in the selection of materials and equipment to support instruction.

26. Notify immediately appropriate personnel of evidence of substance abuse, child abuse, child neglect, severe medical or social conditions, potential suicide or individuals appearing to be under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or anabolic steroids.

27. Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties.

The Teacher of the Homebound shall:

1. Hold a West Virginia First Class Teaching Certification

2. Must have reliable means of transportation.

3. Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative.
