Qualifications

Minimal qualifications will include a BA degree and valid West Virginia Teaching Certifications endorsed in Multi-Categorical or Mentally Impaired-Mild-Moderate, and Autism in grades commensurate with the assignment. Applicant must possess the ability to successfully manage an instructional program for middle school students. Previous experience with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities

Foster a classroom climate conducive to learning

Develop instructional plans and organize class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time

Instruct pupils in subject areas as specified in state law, curricula, and guidelines established by the local board of education and administrative regulations

Provide individual and small group instruction whenever appropriate

Adapt curriculum to the needs of pupils with varying intellectual and special abilities

Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly and productive environment

Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day, as required

Evaluate each pupil's performance and growth in knowledge and understanding; monitor progress toward learning outcomes; prepare progress reports

Communicate with parents, fellow educators, and school counselors on pupil progress; promote positive pupil-teacher-parent relationships

Serve as resource person on interdepartmental level

Adhere to all federal, state, and local educational policies

Report to work one-half hour prior to start of school and remain at least ten minutes after close of school

Maintain paperwork (or provide input on) Special Programs' IEPs, BIPs, FBAs, assessments and eligibility

Complete evaluations including summative, benchmark, and progress monitoring.

Have a clear understanding of the special education process from referral to placement

Maintain a positive behavior intervention and support program for the classroom and for individual students.

Perform all other duties as assigned, according to need, by the school principal and/or Director of Special Programs

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and walk for extended periods; reach, bend, crouch, and kneel; grasp and manipulate objects; write; and use repetitive hand and arm motions. The employee must regularly communicate verbally and audibly and visually monitor students and the surrounding environment. The employee frequently uses computers, instructional technology, and multimedia equipment.

The position requires the employee to frequently lift, carry, push, or move instructional materials and equipment, typically weighing up to 20 pounds and occasionally more.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision, the ability to adjust focus, and the ability to visually monitor multiple students and activities simultaneously.
