Traffic Engineer

Duties

Primary duties of HDR's Traffic Engineer include:

• Working on traffic forecasting, analysis, and design needs for a variety of transportation projects, including:
  • Crash analysis and mitigation strategies;
  • Signing and striping;
  • Temporary traffic control;
  • Traffic signals;
• Performing operational traffic analyses using a variety of modeling tools ranging from highway capacity software to complex micro‑simulation models for projects including isolated intersections and roundabouts to urban arterials and freeway segments.
• Assignments may include conducting field work to collect data such as traffic counts, inventories, or field measurements.

• Master's Degree in Civil Engineering and 6 months' experience in traffic/transportation engineering or a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and 2 years' experience in traffic/transportation engineering.
• Education must include coursework in traffic and/or transportation engineering.
• Required experience may include professional, internship, or graduate research experience.
• Proficiency in:
  Synchro/Sim Traffic; HCS; and Micro Station. Proficiency may have been gained through academic program or professional, internship, or graduate research experience.
• Engineer-in-Training or equivalent certification required;
  Professional Engineering licensure is not a prerequisite for this position.
