Overview
Planning, Engineering, and Maintenance/Charleston HQ. Under limited supervision at the advanced level, this position will perform professional engineering work at the WV Division of Natural Resources, PEM Section. This position reports directly to the Division of Natural Resources PEM Section Chief at the DNR Building 4 headquarters in Charleston WV Capitol Complex and performs professional work at the supervisory level on a variety of engineering services.
Responsibilities- Supervise the activities and performance of PEM section engineer associates.
- Ensure environmental regulatory compliance and oversee wastewater and water treatment systems.
- Serve as Engineer In Charge of aerial trams, ski lifts, and sled run ground conveyance systems.
- Manage project scope, designs, costs, and contracts to meet funding expectations.
- Conduct supervisory work to prevent contract or deadline expiration and design delays.
- Oversee interactions with consultants, contractors, and purchasing processes to reduce project delays and errors.
- Perform construction project management.
- Make engineering calculations and drawings in civil, electrical, mechanical, structural, sanitary, geotechnical, and roadway design as applicable.
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and cost estimates from bidding documents.
- Prepare design study reports and preliminary cost estimates for proposed projects.
- Prepare contracts for consulting architectural/engineering services.
- Furnish technical advice and assistance applying engineering principles and practices.
- Comply with Division and Section contract administration guidelines and project tracking methods.
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by the West Virginia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
- Eight (8) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience as a licensed Professional Engineer in a responsible capacity in charge of engineering projects.
- Experience must be acquired after the bachelor’s degree but may have occurred before or after registration as a professional engineer.
- Ability to perform statewide travel.
- Demonstrated skill in written and oral communication.
- Regular attendance required.
- Preference for candidates with engineering knowledge in sanitary treatment systems, aerial tramways, ski lifts, belt‑driven tube or sled run lifts regarding operations, maintenance, and annual inspections; willingness to learn, train, and certify these systems yearly or bi‑yearly.
- Pay Grade: 25 – Salary Range: $70,311 – $125,656
- Market Rate: $111,330
