The Opportunity

Our US Pipeline Safety Compliance team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business, and we are expanding our presence to support our DOT pipeline compliance throughout the US Natural Gas business unit. This position will be responsible primarily for providing regulatory compliance support and guidance for an identified operating region with US Gas Operations. This will include facilitating both internal inspections and external inspections of our pipeline, liquified natural gas (LNG), and underground natural gas storage facilities with Federal and State regulatory agencies.

This support will also include providing interpretations to the compliance requirements and management of findings and enforcement.

We are seeking a Regulatory Compliance Specialist who has knowledge and experience in managing multiple priorities and initiatives with various internal and external stakeholders from initiation to completion.

What you'll do

  • Provide overall support and guidance to ensure documented adherence to state and federal regulations for 49 CFR 191, 192 and 193 as well as TC Energy internal programs and processes, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company standards
  • Lead and participate in Federal and State inspections for their respective Region
  • A key aspect of the role is to communicate regulatory interpretations to our business unit management team with the intent of implementing continuous productivity improvements, product/service quality improvements, and management of change
  • Ability to represent TC Energy with regulatory agencies during informal conferences and formal hearings with regards to inspection findings, when applicable;
  • Establish and maintain relationships across the business unit stakeholders and with external regulatory bodies, enhance credibility and trust, and influence and manage at multiple levels of the organization
  • Represent TC Energy in various industry group meetings and working groups to influence, participate in state damage prevention meetings and pipeline safety meetings, and any other initiatives that support pipeline safety compliance with State and Federal Agencies
  • Support on-site and Emergency Operations Command calls for emergency response and associated exercises
  • Identify process improvements and best practices observed in the field or recommended by others and ensure implementation by working with key stakeholders
  • Understand and provide guidance on established regulations, standards, best practices, company policies, procedures, practices and their applicability to the company
  • Support and disseminate changes to various DOT compliance programs

Additional responsibilities will be determined by current and future business needs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience in DOT Regulatory Compliance
  • Relevant post secondary education
  • Strong knowledge of 49 CFR 191, 192 and 193 regulations
  • Possess excellent computer skills including the use of Microsoft software (Excel, Word, Teams, PowerPoint and SharePoint) with emphasis on setting up SharePoint environments for internal and external use
  • Strong knowledge of SAP

Preferred Qualifications

  • Related experience in the oil, gas, regulated utility or power generation industry is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and exert influence with a diverse group of people
  • High degree of initiative and ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously with minimal supervision
  • Must be results-oriented
