Professional Surveyor - Charleston, WV - JOB 26-00531

Salary Range:
$80,000 - $130,000 Full-Time Permanent Position with Benefits

A civil engineering firm in Charleston, West Virginia to hire an experienced Professional Surveyor (PS). In this senior leadership role, you will direct the Surveying and Geomatics Department from inception through final completion. You will lead field crews and CAD technical staff, oversee public and private sector projects, manage key client relationships, and play a strategic role in expanding the firm's surveying practice across the region.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all daily operations of the Surveying and Geomatics Department.
  • Plan, organize, supervise, and mentor survey field crews, CAD technicians, and supporting office personnel.
  • Maintain strong communication across regional offices, team leads, and project managers to ensure operational synergy.
  • Manage boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, and construction surveys from scope creation through deliverable finalization.
  • Schedule and coordinate daily assignments for multiple field crews to maximize productivity and meet project milestones.
  • Enforce rigorous QA/QC standards for survey data, maps, plats, and legal descriptions to ensure technical accuracy and deadline adherence.
  • Manage existing client relationships and serve as the primary point of contact for technical surveying matters.
  • Identify and cultivate strategic business opportunities with public and private sector clients to drive department growth.
Requirements
  • Active Professional Surveyor (PS) license in the State of West Virginia is required.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of progressive survey leadership and department management experience.
  • Hands-on proficiency with Trimble survey equipment (robotic total stations, GNSS/GPS) and Trimble Business Center (TBC) / Civil 3D software is strongly preferred.
  • Proven track record of managing field crews, mentoring junior surveyors, and directing cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional organizational, multi-tasking, and time- management skills with a history of delivering projects on time and under budget.
