Position: Corrections Program Specialist-DHS-DCR-Salem Correctional Center & Jail-Harrison Co.

Nature of Work

Under general supervision, performs work at the full performance level in the implementation and evaluation of policies and practices of the WV Division of Corrections at Salem Corrections Center. The position serves as the staff specialist to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations relating to inmate records management. Responsibilities include developing and implementing action plans, coordinating and collaborating with inter‑ and intra‑agency personnel, reviewing work to support staff, and overseeing day‑to‑day operations of the records department.

Duties also encompass supervising and evaluating employees, scheduling, and any additional tasks assigned by the warden. The role may be cross‑trained with other corrections program specialists as needed and may involve other assignments as required.

Counties:
Doddridge, Harrison, Marion, Pleasants, Ritchie, Taylor, and Tyler.

Qualifications
  • Minimum education:

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, corrections, social work, or a related behavioral or social science field.
  • Substitution for education:
    Additional full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid experience may substitute for the required training at a rate of one year of experience for every thirty semester hours of required training.
  • Minimum experience:

    Two (2) years of full‑time or equivalent part‑time paid professional experience in corrections, probation/parole, law enforcement, social work, recreation, religion, or a related behavioral or social science field.
  • Substitution for experience:
    Graduate coursework from an accredited college or university in criminal justice, corrections, social work, or a related behavioral or social science field may substitute for the required experience at a rate of fifteen semester hours of training for every one year of experience.
