The West Virginia House of Delegates Minority Office is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented professional to serve as Legislative Analyst for the Minority Office. The position requires strong research, writing, and communication skills. It offers a unique opportunity to learn about and contribute to the legislative process while supporting the work of the Democratic members of the House of Delegates.

Responsibilities
  • Manage office logistics and scheduling
  • Prepare materials for legislators, including agendas, background memos and visual presentations
  • Prepare statements and correspondence for Minority Leader and legislators
  • Analyze bills, amendments and resolutions to assess their intent, impact and alignment with legislative priorities
  • Conduct detailed research and analysis on a wide range of public policy issues
  • Prepare policy briefs, issue summaries and reports to inform legislative decision-making
    • Summarize legislative proposals, identifying key issues and potential consequences
    • Assist legislators by providing background information, drafting reports, and summarizing committee testimony
    • Collaborate with state agencies, advocacy groups and constituents to gather input and address concerns related to policy proposals
Required Education and Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in public administration, political science or a related field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely
  • Ability to work effectively and professionally with elected officials, staff and members of the public
  • Experience in legislative processes or government operations preferred.
