CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leadership
    :
    Demonstrates curiosity and answers questions on improving processes, assists manager in hiring and developing team members, ensures focus on organizational goals, implements process improvement for turnaround times, maintains self-education on healthcare and IT trends, coordinates customer meetings and completes evaluations, timecard approvals, and on-call schedules.
  • Problem Identification and Resolution
    :
    Oversees daily production problems, escalates issues, prepares test scripts, documents incidents, diagnoses outages, and restores system availability during crises.
  • System Management
    :
    Evaluates and documents operational performance, diagnoses incidents, resolves service requests, uses reporting tools (Reporting Workbench, SQL, Excel macros), attends vendor demonstrations, participates in RFP/RFI and budget review.
  • Project Coordination
    :
    Assigns team members to projects, estimates work effort, sets milestones, assigns ITSM vendor tickets, removes road blocks, completes status reports, schedules vendor calls, coordinates major application upgrades, and creates test plans.
  • Team Building
    :
    Provides onboarding, training, and consistency in procedures, encourages collaboration, leads meetings, records minutes, and escalates as needed.
  • Training & Education
    :
    Facilitates sessions, mentors team members, plans new training curricula, participates in strategic planning, and leads system training environments.
  • Complex System Analysis
    :
    Performs analyses, designs simulations across platforms, modifies procedures for hardware/software, applies business/clinical knowledge, and develops innovative solutions.
  • Adheres to WVUHS policies and those of affiliated entities.
  • Day-to-day operations of team members (workload, payroll, career growth).
  • Applications Support and Deployment across HR/ER/Business Applications, Clinical Applications (PACS/EMR‑EPIC/Cardiology/Lab/Pharmacy).
  • Manages backend hardware, Unix/Linux, storage, and application support for Win Tel servers, VMware/Hypervisor, Epic Ancillary services, financial and web applications, end-user device management, and system log management.
ADDITIONAL

JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Working knowledge of Epic clinical and operational workflows.
  • Commitment to data literacy and translating technical findings into actionable insights.
  • Management of executive-level stakeholder relationships and presentation of findings to senior leadership.
  • Data governance mindset with experience in standards across Epic and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Design of scalable data models, pipelines, and reporting structures (SQL Server, Power BI).
  • Management of analytics teams, hiring, mentoring, and delivery of concurrent projects.
  • Advanced project management skills, including scoping, timelines, prioritization, and on-time delivery.
  • Balancing competing priorities from executive sponsors across clinical, operational, and IT domains.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education & Certification:
    • 1. Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, computer science, business, informatics or related field AND Three (3) years of relatable IT experience.
    • 2. Associate’s degree AND Four (4) years of relatable IT experience.
    • 3. High School Diploma or equivalent AND Five (5) years of relatable IT experience.
  • Internal employees must meet all mandatory competencies in current position to qualify for promotion within IT.
  • Additional certification may be required and will be provided by WVUHS Information Technology within a defined period.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience supporting day-to-day activities in an IT department and leading a team to operational success.
  • Technical experience varies: software development, application support, HL7 interfaces, etc.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  • Standard office environment.
  • On-call responsibilities that may require phone or on-site response.
  • Travel to other WVUHS facilities or affiliated sites for implementations, training, or support.
