Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Ortho-Telemetry position at a Level IV Trauma Center and major teaching hospital, requiring a WV or compact RN license and a minimum of 2 years of experience.

Details
  • Work in a 39-bed Ortho-Telemetry unit within a short-term acute care setting at a Level IV Trauma Center and major teaching hospital (COTH member) with 838 total staffed beds
  • Patient population includes adult and geriatric patients with cardiac conditions (acute MI, unstable angina, CHF, unstable arrhythmias), CVA surgical patients, and post-procedural cardiac patients (post cardiac cath, post angiogram, PTCA)
  • Unit operates as approximately half inpatient and half observation, with high patient turnaround (36 hours or less for observation patients)
  • Typical patient ratio is 5:1, with potential to back on 1-2 of an LPN's patients during staffing shortages
  • Required drip experience: heparin, cardizem, amiodarone, dobutamine, dopamine, and nitro
  • Preferred procedural experience includes cardioversion, TEE, thoracentesis, bone marrow biopsy, chest tube insertion, central line insertion, and paracentesis (not required)
  • Shift: nights, 7P–7A, available as a 3x12 or 4x12 schedule (36hr or 48hr contract options)
  • Schedule includes weekdays and every other weekend
  • Floating within scope is required to meet facility needs

Requirements
  • Active WV or compact RN license required; candidates with a pending RN license may be considered
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Post cardiac cath, post angiogram, and PTCA experience required
  • Proficiency with IV starts and telemetry monitoring required
  • Working proficiency with required cardiac drips (heparin, cardizem, amiodarone, dobutamine, dopamine, nitro) required
  • Flu vaccination required; medical exemption documentation must be provided if declining
  • Two professional references required for consideration
  • Valid driver's license and Social Security card (PDF copies) required for consideration
  • Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility; candidates within 75–99 miles may be submitted for facility approval
Additional Information
  • Provide telemetry-level nursing care to ortho, cardiac, and observation patients in a high-acuity unit
  • Orientation is held every other Thursday
  • Former permanent employees of this facility are not eligible to return as travelers until 2 years after their last date of permanent employment
