Job Title: Surgical Assistant
Reports to: Team Leader
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Position Summary: To provide surgical support to doctors and excellent patient care.
- Ensures current patient records
- Assists doctors with exams
- Performs X-rays on patients, as needed
- Reviews medical history with patients
- Ensures proper consent forms are signed by patient and/or guardian
- Prepares patient prescriptions accurately
- Performs blood pressure checks, EKG monitoring, pulse oximeter monitoring
- Records accurate anesthesia record charting
- Records accurate vital signs
- Maintains clear airways on sedated patients and performs suction
- Performs post‑op patient monitoring, including staying with patient until caretaker arrives
- Assists with cleaning and preparing surgical rooms
- Provides support for ongoing surgeries
- Maintains utmost confidentiality
- Performs any duties required to maintain patient flow and any other extra duties assigned by the office clinical manager

- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Certificate in dental assisting and/or surgical assisting preferred
- DAANCE, N2O and CPR certification preferred
- 1–2 years experience in dental assisting and/or surgical technology
- Prolonged standing and walking
- Frequent bending and twisting
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Can physically assist patients including lifting, pulling, holding
- Ability to retain firm grip on instruments for extended periods of time up to 1 hour
- Dexterity to grab, hold, adjust, tap, feel, and pick up instruments frequently
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and possess a valid driver's license
